“ Revanchism" 2025 hand built fired stoneware, colour clay slips,
My work explores the human condition through the lens of landscape, culture and identity. The work references anatomical imagery. The tour of St. Kilian’s relics to Cavan in 2024 inspired research into medieval medical illustrations created during the medieval period. I see the ceramic process of surface direction as a reflection of skin and the use of vellum or animal hide in the production of psalters imbues a sense of the spiritual. Bog landscapes which are commonplace in the drumlin landscape of Cavan are interesting liminal spaces they are unique terrains. They have soil conditions that preserve plants and objects for thousands of years and therefore act as time capsules. The landscape mirrors our human experience one of ever changing conditions and the ancient biodiversity that we intuitively know is important to maintain. My work explores themes of body, landscape, spirituality and social conditioning
